Can’t log in because you lost access to your phone for 2FA?

Having trouble logging in because you no longer have access to your 2FA device? Follow these steps to securely verify your identity and regain access to your account.

Updated over a week ago

If you no longer have access to the phone number used for login (for example, you changed phones or lost your device), don’t worry — you can still regain access securely.

For security reasons, we’re unable to change the phone number on your account until we first verify your identity. You can do this yourself by following the steps below.

How to regain access to your account

Step 1: Start the login process

  1. Go to the ModernAdvisor login page.

  2. Enter your email and password as usual.

  3. When prompted for your security code, click “Having trouble?”

Step 2: Choose an alternate verification method

  1. Select “Can’t access this phone?”

  2. Choose Verify your identity another way
(this switches you to knowledge-based verification).

Step 3: Complete identity verification

You’ll be asked to complete an Identity Verification Form, which may include:

  • Your SIN

  • Date of birth

  • Account types you hold

Step 4: Set up a new security method

Once your identity is verified, you’ll be able to choose how you receive future security codes:

  • Phone (SMS), or

  • Authenticator app

We recommend using an authenticator app for added security and reliability.

To use an authenticator app:

  • Download a free third-party app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator

  • Follow the on-screen steps to add your ModernAdvisor account
